When was the last time your favorite video game got a facelift?
If your favorite game is Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook, the facelift came out recently offering blitz fans, even more, to get all worked up about.
The same trick and tips from original Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook are a good start to getting a top score, but that’s just the beginning. Some of the new features of Bejeweled Blitz blow away the competition and the original.
Just like before, speed is one of the key components of getting a high score in Bejeweled Blitz, but making combinations that include four or five gens just got even more important.
One of the nice improvements of the Bejeweled Blitz over the original is the ability to get special gems when you combine five gems with three horizontal and three vertical. The combination, sometimes shaped like a cross yields an all-new special gem – the star gem. Once you create the star gem, match it with two others of its base color and unleash its power.
Once the star gem is activated, it destroys all the gems in its row and in its column, substantially adding to your points and remaking the look of the board.
Connecting five gems of the same type in a vertical or horizontal line still results in a hypercube, but the hypercube just cooler too. In addition to a new graphic which looks something like a rotating die, the game makers also added a special feature when you exchange two hypercubes. Exchanging two cubes explodes every gem on the board, resulting in a huge jump to your score.
Another nice addition of the new version of Bejeweled Blitz is the “Last Hurrah” at the end of the game. Fans of Bejeweled Blitz will remember that you have just one minute to outscore your friends and enemies on Facebook. In the original game, nothing was more frustrating than leaving behind all those nifty special gems that you just hadn’t used yet.
Now, during the last hurrah, speciality gems including multiplier gems explode adding a bit more to your final total.
Speed is still the most important factor in the game, though, with a base speed bonus of 1250 points available with every exchange. Get the multiplier gems going and the speed bonuses are multiplied too.
The other way that speed is a factor in the game is the speed of your download ability. Players on dialup may find that the gems refresh slower and therefore make it harder to get the really great top scores.
