LG G7 Fit Review: Is It Still Worth Buying?

Everything you need to know about the LG G7 Fit right here!

Short answer: the LG G7 Fit is not a phone I would recommend as a normal primary smartphone in 2026. It launched in late 2018 with a Snapdragon 821, Android 8.1 Oreo, 4GB of RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. LG then exited the mobile-phone business in 2021.

That said, the G7 Fit still has a few genuinely interesting qualities: a sharp 6.1-inch QHD+ display, IP68 water and dust resistance, expandable microSD storage, a headphone jack with LG’s excellent 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, NFC, USB-C and a surprisingly premium glass-and-metal build.

If you already own one, it can still make sense as a music player, secondary phone, offline device or inexpensive project handset. If you are thinking about buying one used, the price needs to be very low.

LG G7 Fit review: the 2026 verdict

Area 2026 verdict
Display Still excellent on paper: 6.1-inch QHD+ 3120 × 1440 LCD
Performance Very dated; Snapdragon 821 was already an older flagship chip when the phone launched
Memory 4GB RAM, 32GB or 64GB storage, microSD up to 2TB
Camera 16MP single rear camera; limited by modern standards
Battery 3,000mAh; used units may now have significant battery wear
Audio Still the standout feature thanks to the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and headphone jack
Water resistance IP68 when new, but do not trust an eight-year-old used phone around water
Software Major weakness; launched on Android 8.1 and predates LG’s later update pledge
Worth buying? Only very cheaply for a niche or secondary use

What is the LG G7 Fit?

The LG G7 Fit was announced at IFA 2018 as a cheaper way to get several features from LG’s flagship G7 ThinQ.

LG began the phone’s commercial rollout in November 2018. Its official launch announcement describes a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, a 6.1-inch QHD+ display, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and 3,000mAh battery.

You can see the original specifications in LG’s G7 Fit launch announcement.

The basic idea was unusual even in 2018: combine premium display, audio and build features with an older Snapdragon 821 processor to keep the price down.

LG G7 Fit specifications

RAM 4GB LPDDR4x
Storage 32GB or 64GB UFS 2.1
Expandable storage microSD up to 2TB

Rear camera 16MP f/2.2
Front camera 8MP f/1.9

Audio 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, DTS:X, Boombox Speaker, headphone jack
Protection IP68, Gorilla Glass, MIL-STD-810G testing
Launch OS Android 8.1 Oreo

LG’s US specification sheet also notes that the 32GB version has roughly 17GB of usable internal storage after the operating system and preinstalled software, which makes a microSD card particularly useful today.

The display has aged surprisingly well

The G7 Fit’s screen is probably its strongest visual feature even now.

It uses a 6.1-inch 3120 × 1440 QHD+ LCD. LG promoted its Super Bright Display technology at up to 1,000 nits in a boosted outdoor mode. For a 2018 non-flagship phone, that was unusually ambitious.

Modern phones have moved heavily toward OLED and high refresh rates, so the G7 Fit does not compete with a good contemporary display in every respect. But sharpness is not the problem here. The resolution remains far higher than many budget phones ever needed.

The Snapdragon 821 is the real limitation

The G7 Fit’s biggest compromise was obvious even when it launched: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 was already an old processor.

The Snapdragon 821 was a flagship chip from the 2016 era. LG deliberately paired it with premium G7-style features to create a cheaper model in 2018.

In 2026, that means you should expect:

  • slow app launches compared with modern phones;
  • limited multitasking from 4GB of RAM;
  • poor performance in demanding modern games;
  • more heat and power consumption than newer efficient mobile chips;
  • increasing compatibility pressure from modern apps and services.

For calls, messaging, basic browsing, music playback and simple apps, the hardware can still function. It is simply no longer competitive as a general-purpose smartphone.

Audio is still the reason to care about the G7 Fit

This is where the G7 Fit remains genuinely interesting.

LG equipped it with a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, DTS:X virtual surround and its Boombox Speaker design. LG specifically marketed the G7 Fit toward people who wanted higher-end audio without paying flagship prices.

The official LG G7 Fit specification sheet confirms the Quad DAC and configurable digital filters.

That makes the phone potentially more interesting in 2026 as a dedicated wired music player than as a daily smartphone. A cheap used unit with a healthy battery could be an unusually capable source for wired headphones.

Camera quality: adequate historically, weak now

The LG G7 Fit has a single 16MP f/2.2 rear camera and an 8MP f/1.9 front camera.

The old version of this review described them as “great” cameras. That is too generous in 2026.

The rear camera can still take usable photos in good light, but modern phones benefit from years of improvements in image processing, night photography, HDR, stabilization and multiple-camera systems. The Fit also lacks the G7 ThinQ’s useful second ultra-wide rear camera.

If photography matters to you, an inexpensive modern phone will usually be a better choice.

Is the LG G7 Fit waterproof?

No phone should really be described as waterproof. The LG G7 Fit was rated IP68 water and dust resistant when new.

LG’s own technical sheet says the phone was tested under controlled laboratory conditions to withstand water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. LG also explicitly warns that real-world performance can differ.

There is an extra problem in 2026: any G7 Fit you buy today is likely to be used, refurbished or old stock. Adhesives and seals age, and previous repairs may compromise them. I would treat an old G7 Fit as not safely water-resistant, regardless of the rating it had when new.

When did the LG G7 Fit come out?

The G7 Fit was unveiled in August 2018 at IFA in Berlin, but that was not its commercial release date.

LG announced the start of the phone’s rollout on November 7, 2018, with availability beginning that week and continuing through the fourth quarter in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The old version of this article incorrectly said it was released in August 2018.

LG G7 Fit vs LG G7 ThinQ

The LG G7 ThinQ is the more capable phone. The Fit was intentionally built as the cheaper model.

Feature LG G7 Fit LG G7 ThinQ
Processor Snapdragon 821 Snapdragon 845
RAM 4GB 4GB
Base storage 32GB 64GB
Display 6.1-inch 3120 × 1440 LCD 6.1-inch 3120 × 1440 LCD
Rear cameras Single 16MP Dual 16MP standard + ultra-wide
Battery 3,000mAh 3,000mAh
Bluetooth 4.2 5.0
Wireless charging No official listing Yes
Quad DAC Yes Yes
IP rating IP68 IP68

LG’s official G7 ThinQ specifications confirm the Snapdragon 845, dual rear cameras, Bluetooth 5.0 and wireless charging.

If both phones are sitting next to each other at roughly the same used price, the G7 ThinQ is the obvious choice. But in 2026, I would still question whether buying either as a primary phone makes sense.

Software support is the biggest 2026 problem

The LG G7 Fit launched on Android 8.1 Oreo.

LG announced in 2021 that it was leaving the mobile-phone business entirely. The company promised up to three Android OS upgrades for certain premium phones, but that pledge applied to premium models released in 2019 and later. The G7 Fit is a 2018 model, so it was not part of that guarantee.

LG’s OS-update announcement spells out that date cutoff, while its mobile-business closure announcement confirms the company ended phone manufacturing and sales.

I would therefore not buy a G7 Fit for security-sensitive use such as banking, work authentication or anything else where current operating-system support matters. Exact update history varies by region and carrier, but the platform is now undeniably old.

Battery condition matters more than the original specification

On paper, the G7 Fit has a 3,000mAh battery and Quick Charge 3.0.

In practice, an eight-year-old used phone may have a battery that has lost a substantial amount of its original capacity. That means a review written from the launch specification tells you very little about the endurance of the actual unit you are considering.

Before buying one used, ask about:

  • battery health or real-world screen-on time;
  • whether the battery has ever been replaced;
  • unexpected shutdowns;
  • swelling or separation around the back panel;
  • charging-port reliability.

Is the LG G7 Fit worth buying in 2026?

As a main phone: generally no.

As a cheap secondary or audio device: possibly.

It can still make sense if:

  • you already own one and it still works;
  • you want the Quad DAC and headphone jack for wired music;
  • you need a very cheap spare phone;
  • you want an offline media player, test device or hobby phone;
  • you find one in excellent condition for very little money.

I would avoid it if:

  • you want a primary phone for the next few years;
  • you need modern software/security support;
  • you play demanding mobile games;
  • you rely heavily on the camera;
  • you are paying anything close to the cost of a newer budget Android phone.

What should you pay for an LG G7 Fit?

I would not set a fixed dollar figure because used-phone prices vary enormously by country, carrier, condition and battery health.

The useful rule is simpler: buy it only when it is cheap enough that its age and support limitations do not matter.

If you are comparing it with a newer supported budget Android phone and the price difference is modest, buy the newer phone. The G7 Fit’s value today comes from being unusually inexpensive or from its niche audio hardware.

Should you buy a case for one?

If you already own a G7 Fit, yes. The phone uses glass on the front and back, and replacement parts are becoming less attractive to source as the device ages.

I would not recommend a specific old case model because accessory inventory changes constantly. Search by your exact model number and check that the case is genuinely made for the G7 Fit, not merely the visually similar G7 ThinQ.

Final verdict

The LG G7 Fit was an interesting phone in 2018: a bright QHD+ display, premium construction, excellent wired-audio hardware and IP68 resistance wrapped around an older processor to hit a lower price.

In 2026, the balance has shifted. The display and Quad DAC have aged much better than the Snapdragon 821, software platform, battery and camera.

If you already own one, there is no reason to throw it away while it still serves a useful purpose. If you can buy one extremely cheaply, it can make a neat dedicated music player or backup handset.

But for a normal primary smartphone purchase, the sensible answer is to choose something newer and currently supported.
